Building Its Mission: Affordable housing nonprofit will begin construction new homes

BUILDING ITS MISSION Affordable housing nonprofit will begin constructing new homesThank You to The Commercial Appeal for Highlighting Our Mission at Intunity Homes

Intunity Homes would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to The Commercial Appeal and journalist Corey Davis for the recent feature article, “Building Its Mission: Affordable housing nonprofit will begin constructing new homes.” The piece beautifully captured our ongoing mission to provide affordable, accessible housing for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities in Memphis and beyond.

Since 2011, Intunity Homes has grown to own 40 single-family homes across Shelby and Madison Counties, serving over 70 residents. Our homes are offered at significantly below-market rates, ensuring that even individuals relying on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can live in safe, quality housing. As highlighted in the article, we recently acquired a home where tenants were paying $1,500/month and reduced the rent to $885—making a meaningful difference in their lives.

We’re especially excited about our strategic shift from purchasing existing homes to designing and constructing new, energy-efficient, and technology-rich prototype homes.

Thanks to a collaboration with the architectural firm Looney Ricks Kiss (LRK), our nonprofit partner United Housing and our partners at AERA and Sharebuilt, our first new build at 3160 Pershing Ave. is underway. This project represents the first step in our goal to build 40–50 new homes and expand our impact to over 100 tenants.

This recognition by The Commercial Appeal not only honors our work but also brings visibility to a critical housing need within our community. We remain committed to providing dignified, stable housing options for our underserved neighbors.

Thank you again to Corey Davis and The Commercial Appeal for sharing our story. To read the full article or learn more about how you can support our mission, visit commercialappeal.com or you can download a copy of the article here.
